Decoration of Lots and Burial Spaces

In order to provide a clean and a more easily maintained facility, the Cemetery Manager or assignee will biannually remove all decorations not securely placed on headstone foundations. The removal periods are the month of February and the month of September (post Labor Day). Temporary headstone markers more than one year old and decorations of all type, regardless of condition, will be removed during these periods. Items may be retained (for no more than one month) if they have perceived value, for return to the family.

Manager In Charge Of Planting
The Cemetery Manager has authority in the planting of all trees, shrubs, plants and grass ornamentation of the Cemetery. The Manager shall encourage the additional planting of same by lot owners but only with permission from and at Cemetery staff’s direction. It will be left to the Manager’s discretion as to what can be planted and where it can be planted. Random placement has detrimental effect on grounds maintenance.

All plantings shall be located within twelve (12) inches of the front of a memorial or in an approved vase. No planting which exceeds the boundaries of the lot or burial space shall be permitted and may be removed without notice by the Cemetery Manager. The City will not be responsible for damage or provide additional care to anything planted. Planting in the Cremation Garden is strictly prohibited.

Decorations will be returned to the owners only if prior arrangements have been made at the cemetery office. Christmas decorations will be permitted from December 1st through February 1st, at which time they shall be removed by the Cemetery Manager or his assignees.

The Cemetery Manager shall at his discretion and without notice remove decorations from any plot which may create a safety hazard or cause additional maintenance burdens. This shall apply particularly to multiple decorations placed on a grave site.

One metal (shepherd) hook shall be permitted per plot in the upright sections in lieu of any other decorations or plantings. It must not exceed 5′ in height and contain no more than one flower basket. Attachment of any other item to the hook is not permitted. Hooks of any kind are prohibited in “flat marker only” areas.

If you have a special occasion (such as a birth date) during the specified clean up periods and wish to decorate plots, please speak directly with Cemetery staff for special consideration.
